Our dream job. Styling a deliberately over-the-top faux glam-rock music video for Telstra’s new ad campaign for the NRL digital pass via The Monkey’s, directed by Owen Trevor at Rabbit Content.
Gyrating to original composition Straight in Your Eyes our self-assured front man donned a number of outlandish outfits including custom made orange and leopard print onesies and a gold sequin 2 piece; whilst his band mates sported an eclectic mix of post 70’s glam-rock attire loosely inspired by early Guns n Roses, Poison and The Darkness.
The ‘modern day’ scenes show the musos as characters in an office environment, at a bus stop and at a bland family dinner. This required us to source wardrobe for school kids, a granny, conservative teens, mother and father and a mail boy. A challenge given our talent were grown men! It was important that clothing worked tonally in each scene in order to emphasise how lacklustre life is without the Telstra NRL app. We were working with a lot of beige, musky pink and ochre to achieve this effect.
Margo took Owens brief very literally ‘A wonderfully hirsute man in spandex emerges from the smoky darkness…’ and wove human hair extensions into our hero’s short mane for enhanced ‘rock-God’ effect. This needed constant maintenan and preening over the two-day shoot but was the perfect finishing touch for our ridiculously eccentric singer.
Hugely entertaining and hilarious result with big hair, high notes and outrageous costume!
